I had one of those at 10 weeks pregnant. It's like a regular ultrasound, and you can see the baby on the screen, but instead of using the thing on your belly, they have a long, thin one they call a wand, and they insert it into your vagina and press it up against your cervix. The reason is because in early pregnancy, the baby is just too small to be clearly seen by a traditional on-the-belly ultrasound.

It is slightly uncomfortable, but it's quick and they'll likely give you a few photos of the baby to take home.

it is an ultrasound like any other, but they use a wand instead of the regular doppler. it is inserted into your vagina. it give a closer look at the baby at an early gestation, your ovaries, and your cervix. you may have it done if you are not pregnant but they are looking to see if you are having any problems with any part of your reproductive system.
