The reason why it takes a lot of time is because the data can only be moved at a certain rate.

There are programs that can transfer data in a non-windows environment that would be faster, but there is no point in doing so as it would take longer to shut down windows, load the program and transfer the file then boot back into windows and access the data.

You might be able to speed it up a bit by defragmenting both drives. It is possible that it is taking longer because it has to fragment the files to get them to fit on the drives.
