You may not need a router, you could use a "switch" box. That is if your IPS allows more then one computer to be connected. In the area where I live, I have choice of WOW (Wide Open West) and Comcast. WOW allows up three computers to connected and used at one time and so you would only need a "switch" (personally my box has five Ethernet connections, it still only allows only 2 other computer on besides the one signed up for the service). On the other hand Comcast only allows one computer on to a time, Comcast would then need a router (Comcast would only see one computer, the router would act as the first computer). On the other hand some routers can be chained together to make multiple connections to the Internet (the same with a "switch", it can be chained together, but would not hide how many computers are on-line at one time).
"Switches" are cheaper, mine only cost around $19.00.
"Routers" cost more, $55.00 to $250.00 or more. They hide how many computers are on at any one time. Actually you become a "node" for your network off from your IP.
