Timbre is just another word for 'tone' in a guitar. It simply describes the sound quality of any given instrument. It largely comes down to personal taste, if you don't like the sound an instrument makes, don't buy it.
TOP TIP.. Even if you want to impress the guys in the guitar shop with your skillful rendition of Stairway to Heaven, get someone else to play your prospective purchase & listen to the sound it makes, 'cos it'll sound different from when you're playing it.

depends on the guitar. a good quality guitar will have a good tone, nd if it's an old guitar thats been looked after but well used it will have a very rich tone.

my Gibson Les Paul has a beautiful timbre...so mellow and at the same time throaty.....lovely...
