So it is not the virus problem.
You can put the battery back and use both battery and power from ac adapter. Just in case it might be the adapter problem, it still have power from the battery.

Oh boy!! I had THE SAME problem 3 months ago. I had a Latitude 640 Dell laptop. It started doing that & true it wasn't the battery. I took it to CompUSA & they said it was the motherboard, then I called Dell customer service & they said the same. When I reinstalled windows it worked well for a while then the problem went back & eventually I bought another laptop from e-bay (same brand) so I can use the same hardware from the broken one should I need them for my new one. I wish I know for sure what went wrong with that one but I don't know!! It's in my cupboard right now & I'm using the new one. Good luck.

Could well be overheating. Mine had the same problem, but it was old so I bit the bullet and bought a new one! Is it getting very hot before it shuts down? If so, try cleaning the vents out. If they're blocked the CPU fan will not be passing cool air over the CPU and it will soon overheat. There is a link attached for a grat article from 'what laptop' about cleaning out your vents!

If it bluscreens and then goes to copying to cache mode ....it may be that you have two antivirus software running at the same time....
It happened to me i foolishly was running AVG and Norton
I had to wipe then reinstall (you can hit F2 before the windows sign comes on and restart from a safe reboot poin)...if you have tried this my advice is as the first answer....Take it to a pro mate...

The usual causes for random shutdowns are:
1)Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU;
2)Memory module going bad;
3)Power supply going bad.

You need to check your power profile. It may be set to shut down even if it's on AC mains, like if it's on battery. Try this first before shelling out on money for repairs.
