Tissues have specific roles in the body in order for them to function properly they need to replace or introduce new cell growth. Reason 1. to replace lost or damaged cells, (skin, healing a wound). 2. Reproduction. New specialized cells are needed to carry out this function. 3. Cancer, cell reproduction gone wild. 4. Growth of the organism.

It sounds to me like your teacher gave you four specific reasons for cell division. There is no generally accepted scientific dogma that cells divide for four reasons and four reasons only. Anyone who answers this question for you is giving you THEIR opinion of what the four reasons might be, not necessarily your teacher's opinion. Next time, pay more attention in class.
