He was the best actor. He could convey ideas and feelings that resonated with Americans better than anyone, save FDR. He re-energized a country that really believed our best days were behind us. He cut taxes on big business and the middle and lower classes so the digital age could get revved up and spurred the giants who are the creators of all of the technological advances we enjoy today. He created the missile defense programs we are beginning to see come to fruition and brought the Soviet state and it's 70 million murdered to the ground. Pope John Paul and Lec Walesa both agreed that Reagan was the final arbiter of the Soviet state's demise. We now live in a world that Reagan envisioned 30 years ago. A world in which tyranny's would no longer be coddled or tolerated, but confronted and defeated. He understood good and evil when we believed they were archaic terms. We have been reminded of the evil men do to each other. He never forgot. His ability too act strong, courageous and righteous, even when he had doubts, was essential to his many successes, including getting the American hostages released from the same muslims we are farting around with to this day.

He had Alzheimer's for God's SAKE! It takes about 12 years until it starts getting very severe and then the total life span IF the person is taken well care of is between 18 and 20 years from the first onset of it which makes Reagan sick with it while he was in Office.
The cold war ended because of the bankrupt Russia that the war with Afghanistan and al quada did.

I think the real question is why are two of the worst of all time on the list? Clinton was not that great, although for a Democrat he was very good despite his personal life and disgrace he brought to the White House (I am going off of pure politics). FDR should be thought of as one of the worst because of the way he manipulated everything and brought tyranny to the White House. He succeeded in his goals but he broke every law on the way to acheiving them.
Ronald Regean ended the biggest threat to our freedom in the history of the country and brought about a whole new look to politics that thrives today among true conversatives.

Well, he negotiated two major nuclear arms treaties with the soviets, which really cut down on the arsenals in both countries, thereby cooling the tensions even before the wall came down.
His invasion of Grenada was a great success, they have a constitutional government to this day. New Federalism. He might have saved this country from becoming a socialist state after Johnson's "great society" nearly destroyed states rights alltogether.
Reaganomics had it's good and bad. YOu could argue that what he did for big business manifested in the economic boom in the 1990's.

The simple answer is, he wasn't a good president. People choose to believe he was because they like to believe feel-good things like "he ended the threat of global communism...." Which is pure revisionist drivel.
One thing is true that someone mentioned, he did help usher in a new era of conservatism, and for that history will not be kind to him. He just has a lot of good propagandists around right now. Time will out him.
Reagan's achievements:
- Trickle down economics
- Recession
- Crack cocaine
- Urban decay
- Iran-Contra
- Being senile while still in office

He was a much better president then are president now, but just like the rest of republicans he seemed to have something against the poor and middle class. I wouldn't put him in my top five.

The American ideal is freedom and monetary gain. Who emphasized this more than Reagan? But no, G. Wash, T Jeff, The Roosevelts, and Abe push him out of the top 5

The Acting President was the 2nd WORST ever elected. The WORST elected was Tricky Dick. And the evil Dictator Dumbya is off the scale since he does NOT qualify to be named as a president since he was NEVER elected. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

-excellent networking skills
-strengthened the military
-US hostages in iran released minutes after his induction (coincidence- i think not)
-his "no bull" attitude towards gorbechev and the soviet union has partially credited him with helping end the cold war, something we were battling with since the end of ww2.
-his economic policy lead the country into an economic growth that lead well into the clinton presidency.
