I just got my transmission replaced and the people who did it (cottman transmission) put to much fluid back in and I just noticed it, about 3 months later.

The transmission tries to shift into overdrive a around 50 mph but fails and stays into the same gear but then right away tries again and it works. Would this have anything to do with it?

take your car in back and tell them to replace the fluid and tell them that it was there fault that the car has too much fluid in it . If you don't get it fixed you may have your transmission run out and you may be left wherever you are If you notice that the car starts to jump or skip , or even not move at all and then jump all at once after you accelerate that's a sign of it hope you fix it

Keep in mind there is a very specific procedure for checking the fluid level, it varies from car to car and is almost never as simple as an oil level check. As a rule, failure to follow the exact process will result in an inaccurate reading.

Either too much or not enough fluid in the transmission can result in poor performance and eventual trouble or failure.

Take it back to cottman, see what they say.

to much fluid should only cause heat and pressure. do you have a overdrive button on the vehicle also? sounds like it's kicking down because the switch has it in o/d but the gearshift isn't or viceversa. if you get going about 50mph just land on the throttle and see if it kicks down then shifts back and stays until you slow back down.keeping the button off if equipped. jeep cherokkee's are famous for the kick down kickup @50mph it is the o/d gear ratio screwup made by engineers.some o/d switches reset everytime you restart the car.and just a reminder if you check the codes on a car with those o/d buttons it needs to be on to run diognostics correctly(parameter's)

First, make sure you're checking it right. With the transmission hot and in neutral and the engine running. If it's really too high, you could be foaming the fluid. You can pump some out through the dipstick hole.

If you have to much fluid in it would tend to over heat.
