$1, $5, $100, $1000, no limit - you'd keep any amount?

Well, depends. If I saw someone drop money and they didn't realize it, I would give it to them since I know who it goes to. If I found it on the ground and no one was around, I'd pocket it if it were cash only. Finders keepers in my book!!! However, if it was in a purse with an ID in it, I would find the owner and leave their cash inside.

I once found a $50 bill in the mall parking lot and sure didn't go looking for the owner. Now that I think about it, if it was anything more that $100 I would probably seek out the rightful owner. OR if I KNEW that the person in front of me dropped it, I would absolutely give it back even if it was a buck. Karma.

Between 100 and 1000 I would try to find the owner. Any lower or higher, I would keep it. Hello new CD collection!

In a Store: I'd pocket a $20...(although I once did that and found out that it was a co-worker that lost it so I gave it back...and the co-worker told me about it BEFORE I mentioned that I found it)
Anything more, I'd turn it in and hope no one claimed it for 30 days or however long they hold it for. (I did that, too and found myself $60 richer witha clean conscience 30 days later)

Outside: I'd pocket anything up to $100...IMHO it would be too hard to find the conclusive owner of the money dropped outside unless it was major amount.

Money I keep since it is essentially unidentifiable (who writes down serial numbers) and there is thus always a question of ownership (regardless of how small). Anything that can be traced back to a specific owner then I try to locate them.

It's not so much the amount as the circumstances. I found $60 on the street next to my car. I could have deduced who it belonged to and asked them leading questions, but I didn't.
