the conditions manipulated by the researcher. For some experiments you would have an experimental condition and a control condition; however it is possible to have more than one experimental condition. e.g. In an experiment into the effect of eating chocolate cake on memory you would have an experimental condtion where all participants would be given the same amount of chocolate cake at the same time before being given the material to learn and be testedon; in the control condition participants would simply be given the material to learn and be tested on (however, they would have the same amount of time for learning and testing as in the experimental condition).
