I had a TV that did this off and on thing for a long time. The poltergeist theory is always a good one, however its probably a short in your power switch, and it could be easily effected by settling of a house stomping or banging, or maybe even a door close. Anything that can cause enough vibration could trigger the shorted out power switch causing it to randomly turn on/off. I kept the TV for a really long time despite that though because it had a built in original Nintendo that still worked.
Its one of those that if you can fix it yourself great...if you cant...be prepared to shell out close to 100 $ to your local repairman. $65 labor, $25 part...$ 10 taxes,fee's... Hmm that new TV you wanted sounds a little better already
Now the one that is really scary, is the TV that constantly changes the volume without adjusting the volume... Had that problem too...not really sure what caused that one eheh...i still blame the poltergeist myself on that one

Mine not only turned off and on by itself, but it changed channels whenever it wanted and audio went up and down at will.
I had the repairman come over and after about five minutes, he proclaimed, "your tv is possessed".
However, upon taking it to the shop, they found out my cell phone had blown out the tuner module. Replacement of it stopped all the issues.
This is a common occurrence for tv tuners that have gone out. Cell phones and cordless phones are often the culprits.
Good luck.

appears like some thing has fatally overheated - did you save the entire setup freed from airborne dirt and mud? interior and out? i imagine that very last nighttime, too a lot airborne dirt and mud interior led to it to warmth up too a recommendations, fry some factors, and now, they actually do not pick to commence. you could both pay for a repairman to come back and characteristic a glance, or purchase a clean television. have you ever checked the guide for any more suitable suggestion?

Yikes! You should call the dudes from Supernatural! They always work with those kinds of things... ghosts and demons are their specialties!
No... but whenever I do turn it on at times... it turns off by itself...
