I last drove my truck on Friday. It is now Monday and it won't start. There has been wintery mix of weather with temps around the 30's probably 20's at night. I did have low gas, but I have added fuel and heet with it still not starting. When I try to start it, it sounds just like it normally would before the engine turns over, but the engine will not turn. The radio and lights work. It is a stick shift car. Is this a bad fuel pump? Roughly how much would it cost to have this fixed if it is a fuel pump? What else could it be and how much would those scenarios be? Thanks for any help!

A couple of you have said that I may have ice in the pump. Is this something that will eventually thaw out and allow my car to start again? Or, if it is ice, will it need to be replaced?

theres many ways to check your fuel pump you can un hook the fuel line off the engine and turn the key over and see if you got fuel coming from the line or you can turn the key on and listen for the pump to kick on only for about 5-10 seconds if hear nothing and get no fuel check all fuses and relay related to the pump be fore doing any work but it sounds like since you had low fuel you may have had water in the bottom of your tank and it froze the pump and the strainer so your strainer is probely full of ice i live in northern NY i fixed a lady car that had the same problem she ran her car low on gas she let it sit over night and thats all it took i had to pry the pump out of the tank cause it was froze the cost of your pump is about 50-100$ spray some ether in your throddle body if your truck is firing is should run for a few seconds if it dont start then i would look at the firing part of the truck too good luck

It's not necessarily the fuel pump. If the engine does not turn over then you are looking at a starter problem. Have you tried to push start it? Do any of the trouble codes show up when you turn the key on? If so, you need to take it to a dealer and have them run a diagnostic on it. Also you need to see if any fuel is geting to the injectors if so equipped. An ice plug in your fuel line will prevent it from getting from the tank. Any basic maintencance would be helpful. My 97 Dakota has over 150K on it and has been driven all up and down the east coast. Right now I'm in the Pacific Northwest and am having no problems. Our temperatures here have been sub zero for most of the winter so i can see your major concern. Oh by the way, I have been driving Mopars since I was 16 and I'll be 55 in August.

To determine if it's a lack of fuel, squirt a little starting fluid into the airbox and see if it starts.
