Save for it. It'll be cheaper by the time I can pay for it, something better might come along while I am saving for it, or I might decide that I don't really want it anyway.
The very few times I have 'gone' for it, I have often ended up with a white elephant, and always regretted that I then had to pay for something I don't want.
Saving for it makes better logical sense, all these things considered, because it allows me to buy more things that I really want more frequently than whim buying would have.

well if it costs money than duh, I save.
But if it's my hearts desire,
Help that little abused girl
Or I want that guy to be mine,
I go for it.
