See if you can volunteer at your local zoo. You wont get paid yet but it's a good way to get your foot in the door.

You have to be at least 18 to work at PetCo... I'm assuming the same would go for other corporate pet stores, but privately owned ones may have different standards. The pay (as with all jobs) depends on the location. Right now I'd focus on building up a resume. You want to do things that will get you education, experience, and exposure. You're best bet would be to start by volunteering at your local shelter. Zoos and Veterinary hospitals typically have so many people wanting to volunteer that they can afford to be very picky... generally showing a preference for college students and older individuals with lots of previous experience. It never hurts to ask though and you won't know if you don't try. Another option would be to check with your local parks department. Wild life rehabilitators are often in need of a helping hand and that's an excellent way to get your feet wet. See if your school has an internship program, If not try to get something started. Talk to your science teachers- they may have recommendatios or help to give. Also- contact your local university and try to get an appointment with either a student advisor or someone from their biology department to discuss your desire to pursue a career working with animals. They may have advice or connections for you. Find people doing what you want to do and talk to them. In the mean time, read all you can. Educate yourself. Join message boards and lists and get to know others with similar intrests. Be pro-active. Take advantage of every resource available. Whenever you try to get a job (volunteer or otherwise) you have to ask yourself "what do I have to offer" and "why should they choose me over everyone else who wants the same spot".... the answers to those questions should be your priority right now. Good Luck.

How about getting a volunteer position at the local animal shelter. They may even have paid positions albeit the pay being minimal. You may get some valuable experience though. I believe that both PetSmart and Petco have reptiles in their stores. They get their cats from area animals shelters too. Someone mentioned the zoo which was an interesting idea as well.

So your looking for a job working with reptiles? Well thats your answer so heres mine! If you want to work with animals in general i suggest you go to your nearest RSPCA station and ask for a job as an animal inspector! You get paid up to $25,000 a year and you get face to face with some facinating animals! However i think you could make your own business by breeding and selling and giving people care infomation on reptiles! You could earn up to $35,000! You could also be a reptile consovationist, you will get paid lots (not sure how much) and get to see every reptile you could think off! If your thinking of going into the pet shop industry you will make however good your shop is! You proberly will need to invest some money then pay it back when your shop is successfull! :) thanx there the best ones!

You should be out talking to the store you want to work at!! You are 16 and old enough to get a job. Go to pet smart and ask questions, goto local pet store and ask your questions. Good luck
