If you mean to play the slide part of "Free Bird," you'll want an Epiphone. Epiphone is the cheap daughter company of Gibson, which is what all 3 guitars on "Free Bird" were. They have a flat enough fretboard to play efficient slide guitar on. They also have humbucking pickups, so you'll get a similar sound to Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, and other rock bands. You can get a very decent Epiphone for around 300 at a site such as www.musiciansfriend.com. If you ever want to upgrade them, buy some actual Gibson humbuckers. Something like 57 Classics or Burstbucker pickups will make a world of difference when compared to the stock pickups that come with the Epiphones.

Can't get any cheaper than an air guitar. You can play free bird and just about any other song on it.

Seriously though, I wouldn't spend less than 400 for a guitar. Any less and you're taking a chance on any number of quality issues.
I'd recommend going and playing some guitars at a guitar store and see what feels good to you. Then check pawn shops and ebay.

Musical instruments are very much a "you get what you pay for" type of thing.....going the cheap route is going to lead to fustration.... believe me ....because if you want to sound like a pro....you'll need to at least have semi-pro gear.....so my suggestion to you is based on my own rig

Fender Stratocaster (mexican made) or Epiphone Les Paul - about $600.
Line 6 Spider II amp - $300
and you'll need a multi-effects pedal board .... I use a Line 6 Pod XT Live....and that's another $400 bucks.....good luck
oh yeah for Free Bird you'll need a slide for the intro
