1. They helped clothe Europe and much of the United States with the cotton their plantations produced.
2. The tax dollars they paid helped to fund internal improvements across the nation
3. They provided adequate housing and food for their slaves (albeit NOT of the same caliber as the food and housing their own families enjoyed.)
4. They rarely beat or abused their slaves (contrary to what many unread civil rights activitis would have America believe today, the MAJORITY of slave owners never harmed their slaves physically.)
5. They allowed for slaves to marry and raise their own children their own way.
6. They generally allowed slaves time off to attend and organize swamp meetings where black "ministers" could preach to slaves about the Bible and Christianity in general
