Two weeks ago I lost my job as the mamager of a local bar. There was no indication it was happeneing until the day it happened. The owner told me i had lost my job but left me to tell the other four members of staff. Two were fine about it. but two were not and ended up banging on my front door shouting and swearing. I was terrified. had to get the police to get rid of them!
However, one of the staff who took it badly had left at of the begining of the month but was still going mental at me.
She is pregnant and hoping to claim maternity pay but doesnt have all her payslips even though i called the accountant and had the missing ones sent out to her. Is this my fault???
Also a few weeks ago we had a staff meeting and i explainde that the safe was down 250.00. During the meeting all the staff agreed to payback 50.00 each. it wasnt written down but there were witnesses. Now one of the staff is demending her 50.00 back from me!!! what do i do? Im too scared to go out myself!

If you are dealing with reasonable people a full explanation of what you have typed here should satisfy them. None of what has happened, including the maternity issue, would appear to be your falt - the bar owner sounds like a bit of a scumbag for leaving you to pick up the pieces here.

However it doesn't seem like you are dealing with reasonable types. You need to consider your own personal safety. The police probably won't be able to help you much in preventing these people from approaching you, unless it continues for a fairly long time and you have some evidence of sustained intimidation. However you shouldn't hesitate to contact them if there are people trying to get in your home or are engaged in other threatening behaviour.

Some of the things you could consider doing now are:
Keep a record of every approach which is made towards you - times, dates and a note of exactly what happened. This will help if you do go to the police for help in keeping these people from you.
Consider getting a friend or family member to stay with you for a while, or alternatively go and stay with someone else.
Avoid walking on your own late at night in those areas which you are known to visit - try and avoid walking home alone when it's late for example.
It is possible you could get them to take this up with the owner rather than you. I'm thinking particularly of the person demanding £50 here. Whether this is a reasonable request or not, directing them to the owner will at least get them off your back.
Try not to feel too intimidated! You can't let this stop you from doing the things you enjoy and living a normal life.

This sounds like it may blow over sooner rather than later, but as I said if a sustained campaign of abuse or intimidation is directed at you the police do have powers to intervene, especially if you have some evidence - so keep any written messages you recieve and keep a record of any attempts to contact you.

Totally agree with previous this is no longer your fault! as soon as you were told you lost your job and finished working there your responsibility to explain to them or deal with any of it went out the window too.
While im sure you feel like you need to sort this out and are obviously scared about this the loss of money should be reported to your head office (if possible) and the police as it is theft - it is up to them what action is done but the £50 idea was a bit dodgy.
Refer everyone else to head office/brewery don't be the scapegoat for the sake of what seems like a bad manager above you!

First off I need to understand exactly what the situation is how how it got to that.

I do not understand why other employees would be angry with YOU just because you lost the job.
Did you mean to say that EVERYONE lost the their job and you were left to tell them? What did you tell them?

Why don't you tell them that it is the owner's decision and NOT yours?

I do not understand your other questions. Is the pregnant employee wanting to file for TDI? You can't file for TDI unless you are employed. Keeping payroll records is the responsibility of the employee and accountant, NOT you.

What do you mean "the safe was down 250.00"???
Did the employees use company money?
Then you need to pay it back!

Get a lawyer if you can.

I think you're the scape goat. Call the police and tell them all this. Report the whole shebang and why if the safe is missing $$ does the entire staff have to pay? Somethings wrong with this place. It sounds like a front for something else and it's not your place to handle all this. If all else fails talk to the newspapers.

don't see its your fault its down to management, go to the citizens advice bureau and get all the detail you need and pass it on to the others as for the £50 that is also down to management, but none of you should have paid out a penny if it wasn't in your contract that you were responsible for the correct till then you shouldn't be responsible for it

I agree call the police. If you don't work there this isn't your problem any more. The police can put a restraining order on who ever is threatening you.

call the police and let them along with the department of labor know everything. This is bigger than you and you need help. Good luck.
