Someone I know apparently had an MRI Scan due to a wrist injury. Was just checking up on wether they are tring to pull a fast one and out for sympathy. I sound like a cow i know but theres alot of history when it comes to "story telling"

No, they are going above and beyond if they are did and MRI. Those cost roughly $2,000 per scan. I don't know a dollar figure for an X-ray but I do know that it is ALOT less than an MRI.

Although you should know that if they did an MRI then they are looking for something more serious than just a broken wrist. Most likely some kind of tendon or ligament damage. This is bad because those are made up of cartilage which is avascular - meaning it contains no blood vessels. Thus it takes a super long time to heal...if it ever heals at all.

It depends on the purpose of the MRI. They may not have been doing it directly on the wrist, depending on the nature of the injury. I'd take the story with a grain of salt, though. I've only had two MRI's that I can remember, one for a cyst in my back and the other to scan for kidney disease when I was having alot of kidney problems.

As a few other people have said, X-rays look at bones (generally) and MRI's look at soft tissue. Depending on the type of break, and the location, it could be beneficial to have the MRI on board. If it did show soft tissue damage, it would be able to treat that more appropriately.

OK usually they don't do a MRI for a broken wrist. If your friend was trying to pull a fast one no offense they were probably taking a look at her brain! If she broke her wrist they would of done a x-ray.

I doubt it - it is usually an X-ray due to the cost of MRI scans

No do an x-ray. MRI's are typically used for internal organs. It's like the x-ray equivilent but for the "squishy stuff".

MRI is best used to show soft tissue and it's very poor for bone.
A wrist xray would be better to show the bones.

they would probably x-ray it, it is more cost effective, and it would be rediculous to do an MRI if they didn't have a good reason, a wrist injury isn't a good reason.

if it is just a break, no they will not do mri, it is expensive and a little overboard.

usually, they would do x-rays. mri's are for reading the brain.
