When they stop using state and federal services then they should not have to pay their fair share.
The reservation near me keeps claiming that they are a sovereign nation. But they are not because they have as many on welfare as any other race.
The cost of gasoline is only about 10 cents cheaper than off reservation gas yet they pay almost 1/2 what off reservation gas stations pay for it.
If they want sovereignty, go for it...all the way or not at all!

My family (who is Native American) has never received anything from government, either, and due to the large number of people in my tribe, we don't, contrary to popular myth, receive per-caps. These are monies that long ago were designated for the Native peoples as a form of "reparations". Taxes should not apply to casinos, we already have to pay taxes on other things. The money earned from casinos need to go toward running tribal government. I'm a (Native) American taxpayer. The widespread belief that Natives, as individuals, do not pay taxes is ridiculous.

NO, Native Americans should be allowed to operate their casinos free from taxation. However, all Native American casinos should have the option of paying taxes. If the particular casino does not pay taxes, anyone who is NOT Native American should be outlawed from entering those casinos. Native American casinos who do not pay for the roads or services for getting people to those casinos should be only for Native Americans.

I say yes, but put the taxes back into their society. The Native american race has never been un aware of territorialism nor war, tribes fueded and destroyed each other prior to the european expansion onto North America. They traded for and bought guns for a reason. They did not come together as a nation themselves, as a race, they were quite divided among themselves. Tribes had disdain for other tribes, the survival of a tribe meant the overpowering of other tribes. The reasons stemmed from territorial, food supply, belief differences, and yes, cultural arrogance. Human traits that exist in all societies. Tribes chose to deal with the white man to make themselves stronger against other enemy native nations. They were not and are not immune to the Sins of Man. Reservations as poor of a situation to put the Native Americans in, protected them. The reality is without the protection of the reservation the tribe would have become extinct. Reservation life is one of poverty, except for those who run casinos. Reservations have some soveriegnty, as the states do. But are also subject to federal regulation as states are due to the federal monies they accept and use. Yes , tax the casinos and use the taxes to improve life on the reservations. The reparations were made for broken treaties, as a christian nation this was a demand on us - not an option.

Of course they shouldn't. Their reservations aren't really under the auspices of the US government, that's why they don't pay. And this is great for us because it means we get better odds. You're more likely to win in an American Indian casino than any other. Plus we did force them out of their land, so letting them run tax-free casinos is the least we can do.

First of all, no offense intended, we are Native Americans, I do feel that the Native Americans should have to pay taxes just like anyone else does even though the government did do wrong buy our culture years and years ago, but that was then and this is now. Two wrongs don't make a right. There are alot of wrongs in our government but nothing we can do about that.
I sometimes feel like no matter what we vote they do what they want no matter what we want to see happen, thay are slowly taking away our rights as US citizens and that is morally wrong.

That money should be used to fund schools for kids on the reservations and not given to Washington. Personally, income tax should be elimiated and a national sales tax should be placed on goods and services. Considering the GDP of this country. It would be around 3-3.5 trillion a year with around a 20% tax or so.

Most reservations are so dirt poor, I say let them keep their money. I'm not about to pack my bags and leave the U.S., but it's true that the American government has historically robbed these people of everything, including their dignity.
I think it would be wronger than all heck to demand they pay taxes on their casinos. If they are making a good income that way, and folks from all over are willingly putting their money there, then just let it be.

Oh look. Someone doesn't understand basic legal concepts like "treaty rights." What's next? Are you going to complain about Indian fishing laws too? Tell you what: when you come back with an informed question, rather than this ignorant one, maybe intelligent people will take you seriously.
Hint #1: look up treaties.
Hint #2: look at the balance sheets.
Hint #3: look up the term "sovereign nation."
Hint #4: get a roadmap, find your head, and pull it from your anal cavity.

Should Americans have to pay the Indians reparations for the land and goods they stole from the Indians?
Why exactly does the USA need taxes from the Indian Nations?
