Think about it. You slash a politician's salary, and suddenly the money that they're being handed under the table looks all the more appealing. Suddenly the whole nation is run by oil companies, pharmaceuticals and other "big businesses" with enough dough to buy Congress.

What do you think?

if there is no pay for legislators -- only people who can afford to take the job without pay would be elected.

do you want ONLY ultra-wealthy people who don't need any income representing you in Congress?

i say pay them, but limit their terms and revamp their overblown retirement program.

Hah, suddenly the whole nation is run by oil companies? I thought it already was... The point of cutting politicians pay is moot however, because its such a small part of the budget. I would be more concerned about their retirement pay, as oppsed to the pay they get while actually serving.

So they are making the big bucks to work 3 days a week, and still taking bribes, why would you think it would be any different, if you paid them a million a year they would still take bribes. Trust me, if they were going to go to jail no questions ask when caught then they would not take the money. I wish I could work 3 days a week and get the kind of money they get.

I agree...they should limit the amount a govt official can collect from any source during their tenure as a public servant...or maybe go one better and fine them for taking money from sources other than their official paycheck for eveything INCLUDING campaign finances
