I think it is great. It is so easy to critique her for the things she's not doing, but at least she is doing something.
We can't expect her to save the world, and change the life of every woman on this planet. But she is setting a great example for everyone else - don't talk about doing something, do something.
And so many are talking about how she should be doing something for women in America - well, she has to start somewhere, and if she chooses to start in Africa, then bless her. Fact is, if someone like Oprah didn't help them, no-one would, whereas America is the worlds richest country, and has the resources to help those in need. When people in America needs help that badly, it is not Oprah we should point our fingers at, but, but the government.
What Oprah is doing is admirable, and I can't believe people are actually telling her off for doing this.
Besides, it's not like she has done nothing for people in America - I don't even want to get started on all the charity work she has done in America. I think it's great that she is looking across country borders and thinking of other people as well, and not only her fellow country men and women.

Didn't know anything about Oprah's leadership school but I think it is a great idea.
Don't give her a hard time for helping - at least she is putting her money where her ideals are and supporting her values.
There are many needy people in America but when you travel the world and see the devastation that poverty causes in people's lives you realize that although life is hard for many people in America it is far worse in other places.
Not long after apartheid ended in South Africa, Oprah jumped in and started helping. I think it is only natural that she continues her work there because of the relationships she has built up. It is true that South Africa is not the worst country in Africa, it is a developed nation, however the women, especially Black women have had a difficult time.
I am currently working in West Africa and when you see the condition of women and children it breaks your heart. Living in poverty in a tradition-bound and male dominated society is not easy. So many things women take for granted in the West are non-existent in Africa.
As others have said it is her money and she has every right to do as she pleases with it; at least she is helping many who need a helping hand and at the moment are not able to help themselves.
I wish more celebrities and people with wealth would use their fame and money for the benefit of others instead of solely for themselves and others like them.
Wish her and the school all the best. Those women will be empowered and empowered people change their families, communities and their world

I never understood the allure of Oprah; there are many, many sexually abused african-american women out there without talkshows that much more interesting than her.
Back on topic, I wouldn't let Oprah teach me how to make a ham sandwich, must less be a leader.

Uh HELLO! Oprah made her money in the US. She should spend that money here. There are children going without eating right here in the good old US of A and she wants to go to Africa so those girls can be leaders? What about the starving homeless children in America? Or the foster children who lay down every night with no one to hug them goodnight and tell them they love them like I do my own children? What about the children sleeping on the streets? And she thinks that much money should be spent on leadership in Africa. It makes me wanna lose my lunch personally.

I think it is a great idea. What better way to improve the situation of women in a country then to empower women to become future leaders! Many say that she could help "more" girls or do something in the United States... but it is her money and if this is how she chooses to make a difference I think it is awesome. She should be commended for trying to make a difference in the world.

i think of this is an stunning hazard for impoverished black females to grow to be females of substance and power and documents. South Africa would be extra suited for this. youthful white females from center clas and decrease classification have had get right of entry to to faculties like Herschel and others to empower them and boys from diverse backgrounds have Bishops and different faculties, Oprah's camp levels the enjoying field with the objective to talk for youthful black females. possibly somebody will build faculties for clever black youthful boys to enhance their management skills.

Its a good idea, but I am interested in seeing the end result of this project, and seeing just how much it improves things. I only wonder why she chose south africa, considering its not the worst place in africa, or the most needy, but whatever.
