As most people have said, Stratford-upon-Avon, a market town in Warwickshire. I have the distinction of also being born there nearly 52 years ago (the age when he died, oh dear), in a hospital which doesn't exist any more, the NHS having sold most of its property in Stratford for housing developments - you now have to go to Warwick, about 8 miles or so further.
My birthday is quite close too, 13th April, so only 10 days before his. It's no doubt very sad but I get a real kick out of having Stratford as place of birth on my passport, and most people of most nationalities know where it is!
I'm lucky in being able to see his plays at the theatre, usually the cheap seats "up in the Gods" but it is a kind of heaven to see his plays as they were meant to be seen and the RSC is endlessly inventive in the adaptations.
The downside is trying to get your shopping done with so many tourists around, gawping, taking photos, blocking the pavements and generally getting in the way of the locals!
(sorry for going on so much)
