Is the monsoon season so bad that backpackers can't get around, or is it like central america during the rainy season?

It is fabulous to be around in rains in here if one loves getting wet, greenery and earthiness.

It depends on which part of the country you would like to go.

In all probability, you would want to avoid Mumbai (Bombay) where it rains pretty hard throughout the season, save for an odd day in between.

In Chennai (Madras), the mercury can soar upto 38deg Celsius, not too much rain.

The best times I like to be in India are during the months of Dec, Jan, Feb, March.
