Yea not saying my idea is amazing or anything or that it's SO GREAT that people will copy me and take it.

Is there anyway i can get feedback on the idea of the story while making it illegal for ppl to take my ideas?

I haven't started writing it yet, just outlines and character profiles so far....but i want to see if people would read it....maybe write down a summary and some plots and sub plots in it.

no this idea has never been done before lol i checked a couple hundred times. Some things yes, have been done before but differently and the plot is original.

k when i say, "Check a couple hundred times" i mean i've looked up books that have similar plots as mine. My book, although the most of the sub plots have been done in completely different ways before, has never been done the way i want it to. I know it's hard to come up with something NEW and i haven't i have something old but with a new edge to it. No one has published a book, that i know of, that has all the same things going on as i do.

Beat them to market.

Really, that's about it.

Although most people won't see a paragraph of an idea and think "If I steal this I'll be famous!" Nobody will know how to take your plot and turn it into a book that would be anywhere close to what you've got.

It's also entirely possible you've copied someone unknowningly. There aren't hundreds of books, there are tons.

I thought my first idea was incredibly original until I stumbled upon some obscure fantasy book from the sixties that was just like it, so I scrapped mine and started a new one.

No offense... but more than likely someone has written a book with a plot near yours. You will also have to get hundreds of people to read it before it will be published. So telling people a few plot points isn't going to hurt your chances. It may help you modify your ideas a little or see if you're dead on.

First you need to relax. I am only a teen and i have started over 23 books. Just find someone you think would tell you the truth. I talk with a author bout mine. she says if i ever finish one they might be big hits. Dont worry bout the plot being close to another book i mean there are thousands of books out there that are really close. So long as you have your own ideas it dont matter.

I'm not sure if this applies in your country or how much legal weight it will carry.....

A friend of mine once told me about the "poor man's copyright".

If you can't afford or don't know how to copyright your ideas, you put your ideas in an envelope, seal it and post it to yourself. When it arrives you put it away safely. Don't Open It!!

If the time comes when you have to challenge someone for copying your work, you can produce the letter and open it. The letter will be postmarked so there will at least be a date to indicate that you had the idea first.

Write down the idea and mail it to yourself (so it is postdated). If someone you share this idea with goes and writes it into a book then you may have some legal recourse.

However, I wouldn't worry about it too much, don't let your fear of losing the idea keep you from writing it. Even if the idea does get stolen, there will be more ideas, life will go on.

Just to inform you that literally EVERYTHING that is written today (or that you and others have written), has been written BEFORE. EVERYTHING. Your idea is not unique, trust me. There is nothing new to write about, only new or fresh ways to state it. No one can steal something that has already been done, and I gurantee, in some form or other, your "brilliant" idea has already been done. And you say you "checked a couple hundred times." Huh? Checked where and with whom? Do you realize that it would be totally impossible to check every source out there? Impossible!

You can't copyright ideas and most likely what you are writing about has been written about many, many times before. Find the friend(s) you trust the most to read it over and see what they think!

If you're worried, why not just ask people you can trust? Ask your friends and family, but make sure to remind them that you want an honest opinion. Sometimes, friends and family might be scared to give you constructive criticism. Just tell them that you don't care what they say as long as it is an HONEST opinion.

You can't figure out if people will read something that hasn't been written.
You'll have to put in the work of writing SOMETHING down first, then ask friends to read excerpts and give you their opinion.
