i am going to live in chicago but work in gary indiana. i would have to take the dan ryan highway to get there each morning to work and take it to get back. ive been told there is a 3 dollar charge each way. is there any type of pass i can buy (not ez pass) but like a pass that would allow me to pay a one time fee per month that is cheaper than paying six bucks a day. right now im looking at 120 extra bucks a month just for the damn tolls. is there a plan or way to make it cheaper (obv living in indiana) but im trying to live in chi town. your insite please...thanks!

You can take the indiana toll road up to the illinois state line. Once you pay the Indiana $0.50 toll, get off, and you can snake your way up to Lake Shore drive via highway 41.

Or you can always take the South Shore, but that is also like $100 a month for a pass.

Aieee!!!

Depending on where you're going to live in Chicago (Only outsiders call it Chi-town), unless you plan to hit the surface roads like Lake Shore Drive and US41, the Chicago Skyway is your best bet to get to Gary. Taking the Dan Ryan Expressway to 80-94 across the state line is a royal pain due to all of the 18-wheel action out there, esp during the rush.

Bite the bullet and get an I-Pass, which you can use not only on the Illinois Tollway but also out East in the EZ Pass system. There's no monthly pass or token system on the tollways.

The Skyway is what your referring to, that is not the only way you can stay on the Dan Ryan and you'll get to Indiana just the same, it just may take a little longer. There is not a monthly pass or anything like that. One thing that you may want to consider is moving up south that will make your commute much smoother. Try Hyde park it's nice around there.

The is no pass that u can buy besides the I-pass. U dont have to take the Indiana skyway. U can go to make quest to find alternative directions.

You're probably going to have to get an I-PASS (illinoistollway.com). It's pretty much the only way to do it if you want to take the Skyway, and the alternate routes are further to drive.
