How_Would_I_Know, no one ever talked about appeasement. Don't put words in our mouths. Also, YOU need to learn that the Iraqi soldiers are only loyal to their Shia/Sunni/Kurdish backgrounds, and so building a unifying Iraqi Military will never succeed.

Garrett, I never said there was no terrorism before Iraq. Also, I challenge you to name even one averted attack that was meant to be on US soil.

And by this, I mean terrorists in Iraq having their planned attacks on US soil being thwarted. It never happened.

Ladygroove, you are not paying attention. Iraq is a haven for terrorists now. Do your homework!

Also, for anti-war conservatives...please explain your side.

1) I'm a conservative
2) I do NOT believe this war is keeping us save.

I would explain my position but, according to you, reality has no place in my argument.

The assertion you have base you question on is wholly false.

Under Saddam Hussein the entire nation of Iraq lived under a regime of terror. Stalwarts like yourself will always refuse to consider this. Over 80% of Iraqis are happy that the US removed Saddam from power according to the New York Times.

While the incidence of violence may have increased, terror on a whole has decreased. Keeping terrorists out of power is just as, if not more important, than halting their attacks. Terror is not only perpetrated by violence, the mere threat of violence is still terror.

We live in a black and white when it comes to terror. You are either totally against it or you are in favor of it. Saddam had over a decade to lay down his arms and accept the UN terms. He refused.

Saddam would and did do anything he could to bring America down. It is not enough to put people like Saddam in the corner and tell them that they were bad. They will never stop until they have either achieved their objectives or are dead.

Eliminating regimes who have now qualms about advocating, funding or using terror keeps not only America safer but is also making the world safer place. Your failure to accept this indicates that you are the only one with whom reality has no place.

Perhaps you should consider the dictionary definition of terrorism rather than inserting your own. Terror is a state of mind more than it is a physical incident.

Well, I don't say I believe 100% in Iraq war because its being ran as a playground. If they would have gone in there and stomped on these people and let them know they meant business perhaps it would not be taking this long to get the job done. They need to change the rules of engagement and not threaten our fighting forces with criminal charges for doing their jobs. On the other hand I do not believe America should just jump ship. This could negatively impact any future relations with a fledgling democracy, and cause a sense of abandonment by the US. It wouldn't be the first time, but I think America has abandoned others enough already.

Because the terrorists have been tied up in IRAQ INSTEAD OF THE US for the last several years. So, since we have not had an attack on US soil for 6 yrs, how can you say terrorism has increased? Our TRAINED and BRAVE soldiers are over their fighting them instead of innocent civilians. That is what I call keeping us safe.

There's no evidence to support the claim the Iraq war has increased terrorism. The war may have increased people's AWARENESS of terrorism; but, we've been getting attacked by radical Islamic terrorists since 1979.

Anyone with any knowledge of warfare knows, throughout the history of the Near East, battlegrounds were always agreed to by the opposing sides to fight a war for a decisive victory to settle whatever dispute.

Iraq was the chosen battleground. Osama bin Laden chose it. But, then again, OBL declared war on us in 1998 and we didn't think he was serious until 9/11/01. So, it's no wonder most journalists missed this detail about the Iraq war.

Not all conservatives believe that. There have to be some who have awakened to the Administration's lies. Only 30 % still believe him. How many believe in the bogeman? There are a few stubborn hold outs who will march in lockstep with their fearless leader even into concentration camps, over cliffs or into a completely totalitarian government. Why? Who knows why anyone does anything?

"Hermann Goering, Hitler’s Propaganda Minister said; “Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger”.

Their warped priorities must come from some deep rooted psychotic problem they had as children. Who really can tell.

Because almost all terrorism activity has been on Iraqi soil, against our military. They are at least more equipped to handle it than if the terrorists were conducting operations here on unsuspecting citizens, sans 9/11! I certianly hate that our military personal are in harms way, but how much more damage would be done here if the terrorists could turn their full attention on our country? Do you think we are in any better condition to stop it here now than before 9/11? I don't think so. I have one word...Mexico!

Reality has no place with conservative arguments? You mean people like us dont like abortion because science and the assumption that murder is wrong says that aboriton is wrong. Or that we shouldnt cut and run and listen to the terrorists and please them a lot, because we know they dont want to be our friends? I dont know whether the War in Iraq is completely legit or not. You dont either, we can guess, but there is so much we dont know. But it sure isnt creating the terrorists, but killing them. They can recruit all they want, and that is why we have to keep fighting them. What else would you suggest? Not fighting terrorism, especially after we have weakoned al-qaeda and other terror networks considerably, would not be very smart.

Seventy % of the U.S. is against the Police Action in Iraq, so there must be some conservatives included in that number who do not believe that our being in Iraq is keeping us safe!
To assume that all Liberals or Conservatives think alike is like saying, one size fits all!

Terrorism has existed since the French Revolution.

I leave you with a quote from Pat Buchanan:

"The dynamiting of the King David Hotel convinced the British to accelerate their departure from Palestine. Zionist terror ended. Mau Mau terror ended when the Brits left Kenya. When DeGaulle cut Algeria loose, FLN terror ended. When Reagan withdrew his Marines from Beirut, anti-American terror ended in Lebanon.

"Lesson? The price of empire is terror. The price of occupation is terror. The price of interventionism is terror."

I agree with Miss Catherine, I am a conservative, and I dont believe this war is keeping us safe. Sometimes I wonder about such illogical arguements from both sides....But then again, My arguements cannot contain reality...
