The skin on the armpit is thin and your hair is probably dark so you will see the hair in the root through the skin. You can improve the appearance by shaving in all directions (which is how the hair grows). You can also try a depilatory cream like Nair which removes hair a little futher down into the shaft or, if you don't mind the pain, you can wax your underarms which pulls the hair out from the root. I personally am not brave enough to do this myself but, if I were, I would go to a salon and have a pro do it for me.

Because you have a lot of hair on your underarm and fairly thin skin... shaving takes care of the stuff above the skin, but you can still faintly see the below-skin stuff. According to some mindless celebrity rag I read once, famous actresses:

1. Wax rather than shave
2. Undergo a rigorous armpit-exfoliation regime
3. Wear underarm makeup.

Could be that you have thick hair and thin skin, in which you should look for an alternative to shaving. But, another problem it could be is your razor. If you shave with a dull razor, you scrape your skin and the hair, letting dirt and sweat stain your skin. Try a Fusion blade. Also, could it be that you aren't paying attention to washing your underarms carefully? Make sure your give them a good scrub-a-dub...and use Dove deoderant, the one with the mosturizor, so it can soften your skin and clear any darkness. Hope I helped!!

Because you only shave the hair above the skin line. the hair is still below the skin.

Kind of like a man's 5 o'clock shadow.
