it depends on the size of the tank. I've had 4 in 1 tank, but they were all females. Also gerbils in the wild live in big families, but in seperate 'rooms' in the burrow.
Only put females in big groups, males will fight. Also they all have to be the same age and preferably from the same litter, or at least bought at the same time from the same shop.
Big gerbil families are more susceptible to Tyzzer's disease.
If in doubt only put up to four in one tank.

If you want to breed keep them seperate until they know each other and you are ready. Refer to books for more guidance.

depends on the size, generally you should have a pair of gerbils from the same litter only, theres a good chance the gerbils will fight each other if you dont get 2 brothers or 2 sisters from the same litter. If its a very big tank, and you know what i mean, no gerbil abuse in smalll tanks, if it really is a big tank then 3 gerbils of the same litter. If it is a rly, rly big tank, then 4 gerbils but preferably sisters as males are more aggressive.

It depends on how big the tank is. I have a pair of female gerbils in a Ferplast Duna cage. It's about 75 cm long and 25 cm high. I think I could probably have at the most 4 in the tank.

depends....
10 gal.- about 1-3 gerbils
20 gal.- about 4-6 gerbils

i have a 10 gal. tank with 2 gerbils in it. It just needs to be big enough for a water bottle, a food bowl, a shelter, some toys, and room for them to roam around.
*make sure they are same sex*

i hope i helped!

You havent said how big the tank is, so a bit difficult to answer. I had 3 in a cage about 24" x 12"

Don't do this unless you know what sex they are.

We had two in a tank, and ended up with over 30.

Careful; if the tank's not big enough and they have babies, they'll start eating the young.

Well you can start out with two and if they're the opposite sex, you can have several more in a very short amount of time!

As long as they're not over crowded and can move freely they're fine. Just watch it! Rodents are cannibals!!
