she had an ultrasound a few days ago that showed one of them had a harelip and the other a cleft palate. It's terrible to find out your baby will have a problem, but at least these are (relatively) minor ones that can be corrected.

My grandma told me that she is to go in for a test next week to check and see if there are any other problems. She couldn't remember the name of the test, but said it wasn't an amniocenticis. Does anyone have any other idea's on what the test might be? My grandma doesn't remember any of the details about it, except she's pretty sure the name was made up of letters that stood for something else (like hCG stands for Human chorionic gonadotropin, the pregnancy hormone).

Sounds like a Triple Screen blood test. It tests for spina bifida, Down's Syndrome, and Trisomy 13 birth defects.

It could be a CVS (chorionic villis sampling) test. It is usually performed at 16-18 weeks and is optional.

AFP (alpha fetal protein) test? It is also called the "triple screen". I refused it after my 2nd child was born. I personally haven't seen them being conclusive but rather upset the parents to be and just warrant more testing.
