Come on David! Think it through. Chavez hates us so bad, he would do anything to harm us. Iran is his best buddy lately, and Chavez and Carter planned this whole dictitorial takeover.
Chavez must realize that if, under his influence, Venezuela and the entire South American continent converted to radical Islam, The U.S. would be in a tough position.
The world watches our left and sees that we are weak. Peace through strength is not an arrow in our quiver at present.

Definitely not, it is a heavily catholic country. But I think there is a good chance he will declare it a socialist dictatorship, much like Fidel's Cuba. I fear for the people of Venezuela if he does.

Some may dislike Chavez and his policies but just because his country has oil and does not bow down to the USA does not mean it is going to become an Islamic republic.
Where would you even get such an idea, there is not indication that I have seen even remotely showing this possibility. The only way you will get an Islamic republic anywhere in Latin America is if the Saudi's BOUGHT their own country.

Chavez is frenz with the former Prime minister of my country, and friends with our neighbours, Cuba, my sister has been to Venezuela, one of my best friends has been to Cuba and I have a friend at med school in Cuba, I think I would know a little more about the man and Venezuela than people whose main knowledge comes from the US media.
Iran is not his best friend, he has closer friendships with Cuba and Bolivia by far. There has never been ANY indication of Islam playing any role in Venezuela so don't try to make it look like Chavez has ever mentioned that. Latin America is KNOWN for its strong Roman Catholic roots - period.

Not likely, Chavez only sides with Arab nations for business reasons and image !!! it is politically correct to seem to be against the USA these days. It just helps him with his PR. However underneath it all, the oil he has converted into his own piggy bank is being sold mainly to the USA, and or given away to buy alliances. Chavez's team has repeatedly stated that the oil supply to the USA is secure!!!. You just do not see that in the news. It just does not make as much noise as to use microphone politics to bash the USA government. However, Chavez may help some radical Islamic organizations set up camp in USA back yard.
