The fiber is made of a material that carries light. The light actually bounces back and forth against the walls of the fiber as it travels to its destination. This action, however, will not last forever and it will eventually die down in intensity, so in order to transfer light through long distances, you must have devices along the way that will boost the signal.

The data is transferred by flashing the light to send different patterns through the line. These patterns will then be interpreted by a computer on the other end which is programmed to know what the combination of flashes mean. This is all done in milliseconds.

An optic fibre is made of a material that has a refractive index such that light is reflected internally. This allows light to be "piped" efficiently from a transmitter to a receiver.

Information is coded digitally (light on/light off), transmitted down the fibre, and decoded at the receiving end.

The high frequencies of light allows for a lot more data to be transmitted (bandwidth) than down a copper wire. If you use several light sources each at distinct colours, you can transmit multiple information at the same time.

An optical fiber is a cylindrical dielectric waveguide that transmits light along its axis, by the process of total internal reflection. The fiber consists of a core surrounded by a cladding layer. To confine the optical signal in the core, the refractive index of the core must be greater than that of the cladding. The boundary between the core and cladding may either be abrupt, in step-index fiber, or gradual, in graded-index fiber.In other words its a mirror in the inside which bounces the light pulses from wall to wall internally.So it can pretty much redirect light arond corners

Light beams can send more info in the same space as cables, down a fibre optic which is reflective inside.
