We had one and my son liked it. When he was about a month old he started going on it just to give him something else to look at. He'd stay there a couple minutes and then fall asleep. We also used it for tummy time as he got older. When he started crawling he liked the fun fabric and we hung different kinds of toys from it. You can get a used one at a "Once Upon a Child" or some similar store or you might also want to check Craigslist. The mats are usually removable and washable.

I think the mini boppy one is awesome!!
I have a 10 month old, so he is past that stage, but when he was younger, there wasn't much for him to do - lay on his back, or have some tummy time... not too exciting!
The mini boppy with the toys attached helps make the tummy time more interesting...I also borrowed a brightly colored "activity mat" with the toys hanging down, and that was fun for him, too!
If price is an issue, go to a baby resale store, then you can get both! Good luck and congratulations in the future!

They are great. They all have different things that are unique. I use one that is flat and now that my daughter is sitting up, I can use the mat without the bars up, plus she is trying to crawl so she has fun rolling around and exploring on it. She wasn't a fan of being on her tummy for a long while and I would occasionally try to put her on a boppy pillow. It wasn't a big hit, but that's my daughter. My friend's son loved thiers and they had the boppy pillow one. The play gyms are well worth the investment. You will use it quite often. They love to practice grabbing things that are hanging and its great for thier development. Plus you can continuously modify them. I use the pull toys that vibrate. She has just figured out how to work them so I hang them up. They are prbably better than exersaucers and jumpers. You can fold them up and they can play on them from birth until they are no longer interested.

Congratulations are in order. Definitely I would recommend the gym because some are equipped with an engaging Lights & Music Touch Pad! Whether relaxing on her back or lying on her tummy, baby can enjoy a full range of developmental experiences on this cozy and stimulating play mat. Includes removable, safe arches with 5 dangling toys, large Some of them includes mirror, and Mozart and nursery tunes on an animal themed soft play mat. Ages 0-10 months. Be sure to check all the safety features as well. Let me know if this helped you or not.

I have two girls and loved the playgyms!! My little girls would lay for 30 min to an hour playing with them. They had the one that sang and lite up so I think that may have helped hold their attention longer. Also the great thing about the boppy ones is of course the boppy!! My mother in law owns a childrens store and has one up there and the girls love it also plus i loved the extra support it gave them!! Good Luck and Congratulations!!

My son is 7mo old and still enjoys his. It was nice to see him progress from just looking at things to pulling them. Now he still enjoys it, even when he rolls over on his belly. Mine also has the mini boppy pillow and it helped to learn to keep his head up. I have the Discover & Play Activity Gym by Baby Einstein. I have pets, so it was nice to know he had a hair free spot to lay on the floor. I like the fact that you can set it to play music when they pull at something. Its one of the few toys they can play with in the beginning.

The boppy tummy time play pads are great! My daughter had a blast with hers but she really loved any toy that lit up and played sounds or music. Her favorite playspot for tummy time and when she learned to roll over (and she still likes to play with it actually) is Miracles and Milestones Panda Gym...FYI it has an annoying flower that sings and plays music, your baby will love this probably because it'll drive you nuts. Congrats and best wishes!

Absolutely! We have the fisher price one and my son loves it. When he was real young he'd lay under there and stare at the things. Now that he's 4 months he's reaching for and playing with the toys. He loves it. Lots of bright colors to get his attention. And when they get too old for the hanging toys you can remove the over head part and have a colorful play mat.
They are kinda expensive ($50-70 at Babies r us), try to find one used, we bought ours at Children's Orchard for $20.

It gives baby something to look at, and can give you a couple minutes to get something done. Some of them play music, have different textures on it for when they are able to reach and touch things. The one that I have has an option to flip the fabric on the bottom over for when they are a bit older. The patterns are different on either side. They help stimulate baby and help with motor skills. I like them and so does my daughter.

I have the black white and red one for my little guy. He wasn't too interested in it until he became aware of his hands and feet at about 3 months old. Here's the link to the one I have http://www.tinylove.com/toy.aspx?toyId=81
It's good for playing on his back or his tummy. You can also interact with him.
You can also add more toys to it to make it more interesting for him using things like this: http://www.tinylove.com/toy.aspx?toyId=51
He usually likes to bang the toys together when they are dangling from the long chains, or put them in his mouth. When he can't grab them and get them to his mouth he gets rather upset. So I am glad I bought the additional links.
It's good to have a variety of things for them to do. You won't have to worry about it for the first couple months cuz they don't play with anything at all in the beginning, but when my little guy started discovering cause and effect, we noticed that he will get bored with the same thing so we have to rotate him through his toys (bouncy seat, swing, jumper, etc.) And there are also times where he is just as thrilled to lay in a crib and chew on his toes for a while.
