There are sum REALLY good Rivalries out there. The Celtics and the Lakers... Dallas and San Francisco had it going for awhile in Football..... The Bulls and the Pistons in the NBA.... Ali vs Frazier was huge... Duke vs North Carolina is legendary.... Michigan vs THE Ohio state University lol Theres always Venom in there....USC Vs Notre Dame.... But i think if you want the best, nastiest, most storied Rivalry in all of sports in any country i think, you haveta go with Yankees v Redsox, PEople hate to admit it, but its the truth, whenever those two teams play each other, it seems it is always like one up and in pitch from all hell breaking loose no matter what year it is LMAO.

I think the best rivalry has to be the Celtics and Lakers in the 80s. I think a rivalry has to be two top dogs going head-to-head often in championships for a good span of years, such as the Laker-Celtic rivalry that lasted for a good decade in the 80s with Magic and Bird. I love what's going on with the Red Sox and Yankees right now and the last couple of seasons, but it is not really a rivalry, more of an underdog going against the 'evil empire' in the Yanks.

The best rivalry I have ever seen was the rivalry between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. They were well contrasted, and their matches were usually for a local tournament or a Grand Slam tournament title. Here is a description of their rivalry from a book called "The Rivals" :
Together, Evert and Navratilova opposed one another 80 times in singles play, with Navratilova edging the series 43-37. Of those 80 meetings, a staggering 60 were played in finals, with a championship at stake. Each woman won 18 Major singles titles, and the two of them exchanged the world number one ranking 17 times. None of which is to even begin the discussion of Evert's and Navratilova's cultural significance as women athletes. Or, in Navratilova's case, as a defector from a communist country, or as an openly gay woman.
Now THAT's what I call a rivalry

Depends on the sports, and the person. I'm more into baseball, but to be honest I always loved watching the bulls vs the knicks. MJ always saved something special for these games, and John Starks even stepped it up a knotch. Games like those just get better as time goes by.
To answer your question of the list you gave though... Elway vs. Montana for sure. Great games, and even though... the super bowl match up was a let down, they had some regular season games that will stand the test of time.
Nice list by the way though...

The ALL TIME greatest rivalry that has all the honor, emotion and spirit can be but one event:
THE ARMY-NAVY GAME........Go Navy!! Beat Army!!
My beloved father went to undergrad and Grad school at USC...he despised Notre Dame....but even Daddy would say that Army-Navy is THE rivalry. ( My darling brother graduated from USNA in '65,along with Roger Staubach.)
