Maybe the question to be asked is, "what makes them illegal"? If only the legal aliens come in, then we wouldn't have to worry about the illegal ones. If every alien was designated "legal" then there'd be no problem. If...if...if.
Maybe we should build donut shops along the border. People would stop for a bit to eat along the way.
Actually, I just want my two points for answering this question.

Bring all the Military, People home, From Where, ever they are in the World, Surround the entire United States border, with all of them, nobody comes in or out without, having, to be checked out real well, And no,one Gets with,in 100 Miles of our Borders, or waters, or it,s like shooting Fish in a barrel. If your an American Citizen, no Problem, anyone else, Fish, or buzzard food. And no Apologizes.

The answer is to prosecute those who HIRE illegal workers.
I don't blame people who just want a better life, but if nobody hired them, they wouldn't come.
People want cheap lawn care, cheap housecleaning, cheap food. No one wants to pay a living wage. These people are willing to work for less than a living wage because its better than where they came from.
It's the same thing as bitching that all the jobs are going to China and India. Why? Because we want to buy our crap really cheap at Wal-Mart. As stockholders we expect huge dividends rather than modest growth.
So companies outsource to give consumers and markets what they want. It's greed on all levels.
