There 'is' a measure of importance in your line of questioning.
And you are not too far off point...
There 'is' a spiritual war, one that is inevitably required.
That is, the outer wars have been a ruse, with only some validity, which is to say, outer wars ensue as an expression of the deep denial that is endemic to human nature, which falls to war as we know of wars.
Outer wars are one remove from the war that ultimately must be fought -- the war with each of our own lower natures... This is the war we ever avert and seldom if ever resolve to confront.
A true warrior is one who confronts his lower nature, and not something poetic or romantic or what we have seen over the millenia in which two factions fight from irreconcilable doctrines.
Thereto, people have now begun to observe and question their observations; they have come to see their own lower natures expressed in others.
When they each come to see this same within themselves, this instability and inanity that you observe and speak of will verily dissipate. For so busy one is who is confronting his or her lower nature that he or she has little interest in the world of folly that exist outside of themselves, for to address one's lower nature is to embrace truths...is to resolve of unrest, which embracing does not equivocate about lies.
The world will never quite be the one warrior, the individual, multiplied many times to form the collective.
Rather, it will well continue to be the collective defining the individual, which misfortune innately has no perception, originality, freedom or innate strength and courage. Therefore, joy and hope does ever recede and indifference to the natures of others does persist...

What's happening in the world right now has been happening, in various ways, since the dawn of humanity. The great majority are too lazy or stupid to think for themselves. They look to the past, expecting history or tradition to supply philosophical meaning to their empty lives. A significant but growing minority turn their backs on the ignorance and superstitions of their primitive ancestors. They look forward to a brighter future, where the mistakes of the past have been corrected, where truth and knowledge will ultimately triumph over superstition and ignorance. The lazy and stupid fill "that void of what's unknown" with whichever convenient superstition is easiest for them to understand. The lovers of Truth take the far more difficult path. They study and learn, improving their minds the way a bodybuilder improves his physique -- through hard work and exercise.
I see it as a continuing battle between the forces of ignorant superstition and the forces of true knowledge......................

Questioning one's life-long and time-honored religious beliefs need not be a problem. I think of it as a good thing actually. The major religions of the world have, for too long, held people back from the true exploration of faith in my opinion. Church/ Temple/ Mosque control has led people to accept doctrine over exploration. When one questions, one opens the door for infinite possibilities. The unknown does need to be a scary thing without traditional doctrine. It can, instead, be filled with possibiities and avenues traditional religions do not allow for. I prefer that to dogma dictated from a higher, but very human, source.

what's interesting is that because we are entering (or already entered... i forgot, it was a while since i read this) the age of pisces, everyone is now more dependant on scientific proof and less dependant on religious beliefs.
we are entering an age where religion (hopefully) will be almost completely nonexistent, where wars based on fundamentalism will be obsolete, and we will be able to live peacefully as one "world nation"
not that i think we'll see it in our lifetimes...

There will be no spiritual war. We are here in our school called Earth. People are evolving all the time. Evolving means we are becoming more civilized, more humane all the time. Violence is a decreasing sine wave...there will be pockets of violence, but over time it is decreasing...eventually to nil. It is the dawning of the age of aquarius, age of aquarius, aquarius, aquarius. \0/
