Sometimes your body passes old blood out of your system during pregnancy, especially after sex. But if you're not doing any physical activities and you're bleeding and cramping, your safest option would be to get to a doctor asap, especially if you're only 3-4 weeks along.

You may be miscarrying.

And I know that if you wanted this pregnancy, you'll want to go to the emergency room to try and save it. Please, don't.

I really don't want to sound insensitive, but there's nothing anyone can do to stop a miscarriage. Your body will, in all likelihood, take care of itself, and get ready for you to try again, all on its own.

The only reason you might need to see a doctor after a miscarriage are if you're experiencing persistent bleeding, fever and increasing pelvic pain, an odorous discharge, or don't resume a normal period.

If you're already seeing an OB/GYN, let him/her know, and schedule an appointment. If he sends you for an ultrasound (and he probably will), try to find an outpatient facility, rather than go to the emergency room.
