I find it easiest to take things in steps. That way you don't see something as a huge, insurmountable peak you'll never reach.
Think about your interests. Choose something you'd like to accomplish. Then step by step, try to get there. If it's a job, start by looking to see what's available. Then go on a couple of interviews, maybe without even hoping to get those particular jobs. Then try an interview for one you've realized, through this process, you DO want.
If it's more of a social life, look in the paper to see if there's a place with live music you like. Try going out one night to see a band. Get a feel for what it's like, and look at the people around you. Get comfortable with the atmosphere. Then the next time you go to a show, try talking to someone. You can start out small with "Hi" and a smile, or "gee, the lines for the bathroom are always so long." Once you feel more relaxed about talking to people, you can bring up one of the shows you've seen recently, or ask them about what things they like to see.
These are just examples. You can break any task or path to a goal into steps. And try not to skip ahead mentally to the last step! Let that be almost like a different goal, because your inital goal is just completeing each step. Even if you only take the first few steps toward it you're still doing something, and I honestly believe it prepares you for getting out and doing more and more. Eventually, you'll finish enough steps to achieve a goal and/or feel comfortable getting out and doing things.

Force yourself to never stay home for a week. Seek socialization opportunities. Maybe get laid. Then you'll know how enjoyable life it. Seriously though, why ask here, where no one in this place obviously has no life?
