I believe the misconception comes from the fact that majority of the terrorists are Muslim. But not all muslims are terrorists.Terrorists are extremists in their faith.
In short, there are two reasons that not all Muslims are terrorists. First, not all who label themselves a Muslim are a true Muslim (just like not all who label themselves a Christian are a Christian). Second, this sixth pillar is an obligation on the entire community of Muslims and not each individual.
If you do find a Muslim who condemns the terrorists then pay close attention to their words. The Muslim will point out that it is wrong to kill civilians or those who are not at war with Muslims. On the other hand, they never condemn the objectives of the terrorists because you cannot refute the objective using the Qur'an. It is the duty of the community of Muslims to destroy every non Muslim government and replace it with an Islamic government (khaleefah). Read and you will understand. To a real Muslim, the question is not "should the United States government be destroyed?" but "have the residents of the United States been sufficiently called to Islam?" because all the scholars agree that Muslims are not allowed to fight the enemy unless they are called to Islam in the first instance. In other words good Muslims do not fight their enemy without first offering the enemy a chance to accept Islam. If this offer is turned down, they are asked to pay 'Jizya' (head tax), and to be part of the State and be ruled by Islamic Shari'a. If the enemy (like the United States) refuses both options, Islam or Jizya, then the Muslims are allowed to declare war on them (and fly planes into buildings).
I hope this information is accurate, becuase you never know what is fact when searching on the internet. But it was the only thing i could find that came close to distinguishing the different "beliefs" of Muslims.

So by your definition all the people that waged war in the name of God and Christianity throughout history were not really Christians even when these wars were approved by no less than the Pope. (read your history about the Crusades) Don't forget they also were doing God's work by murdering infidels.
Anyone can take a phrase out of context and interpret it to justify the way they act. This does not mean we should judge the many others that do not take the readings out of context.
What they are probably are trying to say is that just because a select group has decided to interpret the Koran in their own extremist way does not mean that every single Muslim is like that. There are about 1.4 - 1.6 billion Muslims in the world today. If all Muslims were terrorists we would be in a lot more trouble.
To make such broad and judgemental statements about a culture is what spreads so much hate around the world.

Think of it this way: There are a lot of "Christians" who go to angry protests. Christians say that these people aren't showing the love of God. Because of the vast amounts of Christians in the US alone, this is rational and believable. It's the same for "Muslim" terrorists. There are millions of Muslims all over the world, not just thei Middle East. The amount of radical Muslim terrorists as proportionate to the amount of "regular" Muslims.

i've got examine the entire Qur'an. hi. What do you mean by utilising "Fundamentalist"? I see you cherry figuring out on out of the small variety of human beings you have met to justify bigotry. How are you bigger? As for something of that mess of a run-on sentence... i'm no longer able to tell whether that is greater of a poisoned nicely advert Hominem or a straw guy. the two are in there, however the essential one is yet to make itself popular. the two way, I scoff at your loss of genuine info. you assert you like Muslims you meet, and yet you like to %. on the religion. i'm specific you're one heck of a chum.. you could't be racist against a faith, it is not a race. you're no longer a racist. you're basically ignorant and a thoroughly uneducated bigot, in case you would be wanting to be technical.

"But there are so many terrorists and they are supported overwhelmingly by the muslim population of the world"
That is the problem in your argument. During the crusades, a similarly inaccurate statement might have been "There are so many knights and they are supported overwhelmingly by the Christian population of the world."
In both cases, 'so many' is a matter of perspective in this world of 6 BILLION people... and supported by most is a matter of a few governments and not the citizens supporting most terrorists.

Putting this as politely as possible....
It's been my bitter experience with some of my own family that has been hurt by Saudis in Riyadh that "disowning" someone is about as strictly as most Wahabbi Muslims want to deal with their worst elements. Why? Because then person that is disowned is no longer the responsibility of those doing the disowning. It is taking the path of least resistance and least responsibility.
Which works on a local small scale, but not on the scale that it is currently being used and abused. The truth is, the rest of Western Civilization has *plenty* of criminals and sociopaths that *we* could just "disown" after the Arabist manner and send abroad to inflict their mayhem on other innocent people...but we don't do that, do we?
Why? Because some of us know what it means to actually be *responsible* for the worst behavior and excesses of others. We know better (usually) than to let our psychos dictate policy on everything from soup to nuts, from foreign cartoons to papal statements in a religion that isn't even relevant. Most of the time Western Civilization knows better (even when America does not).
We have enough sense and know what civilization and Rule of Law *mean*, to know that we cannot just let our serial killers and our sociopaths run amok and become another society's problem. We *imprison* the bulk of our criminals and attempt to treat the bulk of our madmen....we don't disown them and send them elsewhere. We non-Wahabbis admit that the wretched and evil among us are indeed *our* problem and *our* failure as a society....well, usually.
No accounting for the lunatic behavior of Texans, for example. ^_^
But still...it is at bottom a cultural difference. They disown, we don't. At least so long as the offender is male that is...but that is another whole topic, isn't it? Point is, disowning as policy stops being effective really quickly, and starts becoming a dysfunction of society, wherein *nobody* is responsible for anything anymore.
Really....just look at what happened with Arafat. If he had been *one bit* more responsible for not just himself, but for the people he claimed leadership of, he would not have spat on his Nobel Peace Prize and went back to the politics of misery and random, thuggish violence towards *all*. But no....he was afraid his own people would *shoot him* for daring to compromise just enough to liberate his own people....so he *disowned* the Peace Process, rather than admit his responsibility for his side of it.
Rather sucks, doesn't it? Not that they'll ever do anything about it, but there it is.

Terrorist come in all shapes and sizes. Nationalities, and sexes, and religions. If we get a mirror and look real close we can see a terrorist looking back. Anybody who takes something belonging to someone else by means of brute force, intimidation,or mental or physical abuse is a terrorist. Our for fathers came to America and took from the Indians what was theirs, Then we sent ships back across the ocean to kidnap and enslave others to do our bidding. Many land owners then raped and murderers Innocent women and children. This is our heritage. Shouldn't we be proud? We only have room to beg forgiveness for our transgressions, and then to grant that same forgiveness to others. God says JUDGE NOT LEAST ye be judged. He also say with the same measure of Mercy you show so shall you be judged.GOD HELP AMERICA, GOD FORGIVE AMERICA, GOD HELP AMERICA FORGIVE OTHERS SO WE CAN BE FORGIVEN.

Well, the IRA is a terrorist group, and they're not Muslim. And I believe Catholics went all crazy and killed Muslims during the Crusades.
Islam doesn't say that you should kill people. It's actually quite peaceful if you study it. However, as in pretty much every religion, there are extremists.

They say it so as to distance their selves from terrorists. Just because they happen to be of the same culture as them doesn't mean they should be looked down upon. Unfortunately this is the case though so they have to take a defensive stance.

It's because their founder, Muhammad was himself the world's greatest terrorist and con-man.
The way it works is very ingenious- everybody with their eyes open "knows" that islam is a violent dangerous cult
However, muslims, including "moderate" muslims actually sucker a lot of people into believing they are a peaceful religion, despite the Mount Everest sized mountain of evidence to the contrary
Their strategy is working. We should all be united against terrorism, but many liberals who are complete suckers buy the lies
********
For those ignorant of history, only citing that Christians committed atrocities during the crusades are only showing one side of the story.
The fact is that the Christian crusades were a RESPONSE to the muslim crusades. Islam was being spread by the sword literally. The muslims committed atrocities all over the middle east and were working their way into Europe.
The Christian crusades were a response to Islamic crusades that preceded them.
Please people, don't be hypocritical. You can condemn the Christian crusades but you must also condemn the muslim crusades. The horrors committed by the catholics were a picnic compared to what the muslims started doing- and haven't stopped doing
