It is an addiction. I quit 30 some-odd years ago, but I'm still an addict.
People do a lot of things that they know are bad for them, but usually choose to ignore the facts. Called "Human Nature".
Things like eating junk, driving automobiles, watching television, answering questions on YA...

The same reason folks gorge on fatty foods, dump toxic waste, rip off the public with some scientific scam, drink beer, drink licquor, place vinyl on homes even though they know vocs are being released into their families respitory system, burn gasoline and then breath the vapors, yes the human race is sniffing glue just so they can get there quicker, turn on computers that release toxic vapors when heated up,dump sewage raw into streams so they will never have to call a septic man to flush their systems, wear perfumes that can and has been known to make eyes water, wear hairsprays that can chock to death a person, dump waste into the ocean because they are not worried about a hundred years down the road, hunt with shotguns that covers an entire field and stream in lead, own rifles that can kill from miles away or farther than a person can see,own cars that can scorch to 290mph and 0-60 in a nano second, create an nuclear power plant that if meltdowns, they can not put out. Many more reason of equal rights.A person has a right to smoke a cigarette or should have the right when you look at the whole.Let's not be hypocrits.

Yes: I was addicted to Copenhagen ,Smokeless, tobacco,I worked as Air-craft Mechanic, the worked ask for a whole lot & chewing tobacco, was better than grinding teeth,I mean some of those jobs will take all you got,This addiction like any other,Satan
can get a Stronghold in my life,It said on the can, has caused cancer,I tried to quit on my own, failed every time, then I remembered how Jesus took away the smoaking I had years ago.I went in Prayer to God and ask Him Lord please brake the
hold of this thing that is Killing me,not to mention what my addiction was telling others about Me, A Believer telling them that God can brake the hold of Porn--Cocane,I went to god"s word
and read Scripture,I would say these out Loud to Me.The Man that the Son sets free is free indeed& when Satan would bring up
the Tobacco Habit ,I would only say, The Blood of Jesus has made me free.I would just take one Day at a time.& in short time I was free from this,There could be 5 Mechanics chewing around
Me and I didn"t think about it anymore.I don"t believe People think it is cool to smoke-Well maybe in High School.I think Satan will use whatever He can to interfere with A Believers Life,Or an Unbeliever ,Satan would like to Destroy all of God"s Creation,The thing is when God delivers you,People ask how You did it ,I said I had to ask God,I couldn"t do it on my owen. Thanks it has been years.

Do you drive? You could be killed every day by some drunk. Do you drink? Alcohol destroys your liver. The point is everyone takes risks everyday. Smokers just choose to risk lung cancer or heart disease. I quit smoking years ago, but I support a persons right to choose to smoke. It is a legal product and they have every right to do so. It's the people who have no health insurance that I have problems with. I pay 500 dollars a month for health insurance largely because of the idiots who don't work and don't have health insurance. Why is it when you see homeless people on the side of the road with a sign begging for cash they are often smoking. If I were homeless I sure as hell wouldn't waste my money on cigarettes. Cigarettes, even the cheap ones are 3 bucks a pack. Get a clue.

I don't smoke, but ask any smoker and they'll tell u that they don't think that it's cool. They just started it for what ever reason. There are tons of them. I think that teens start to smoke because of peer pressure, they might have thought that it was cool when they started but they don't later on. Then they are addicted. Also some may start because of emotional problems. Or parents have too much control over them and they know that parents don't want them to smoke so they do it to get them mad. But people start for a number of reasons, and then they get addicted and have a hard time stoping.

It's addiction, even if they want to stop its hard because they're brain tells them to get more becuz it's so used to it.
Once i became addicted to a computer game lol
i spent 24/7 on it my whole summer when i was like 12
then i saw a movie where some guy got an eye tumor. Slowly i stopped playing the game more and more until i barely played ever.
Smoking is harder to get rid of than a dumb game becuz even though u might care more about your life than a cigarette or looking cool, you always tell yourself, "Maybe on more."
DON'T SMOKE.

It's not always a matter of being cool. It's calming to smoke, and after awhile it becomes an addiction just like alcohol or other drugs. People shouldn't be given a hard time for it, they should be offered support if they decide to quit.

Well I will start off by saying some people start because of peer pressure from someone or they see someone they look up to do it.Some will just do it to be in with the in crowd. Anyway they start it, they can't seem to put it down. They reason they can't put it down is, it is an addiction.Smoking and alchol are the number one drugs in the world , because they are so easy to get. They are just like any other kind of drugs, they're dangerous and very addicting.Say no to these drugs along with the illegal ones.

It is not cool at all to smoke. It is very hard habit to break. I have been smoking for a very long time. I want to quit really bad. A person who does not smoke has no idea how hard it is to quit.

Imagine that you're hungry..What do you do? You eat.
Same with smoking. It's just an urge to smoke and if you don't - it only getas worse. It is also a mental addiction, when you're used to smoking after a meal, for example, or after a movie..If you don't smoke - it's like you're missing something. Missing a part of your life..
