If you are giving birth via c-section, they will prescribe you pain killers- but as someone who has had 2 c-sections-you really DON'T need anything stronger than ibruprofen 800. I really don't have experience with vaginal birth, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to take ibuprofen with that as well. MAKE SURE you tell everyone that will listen at the hospital of your issue. They all need to know, because one unaware person can send you spiraling again. Good for you.....you need to know you are taking a HUGE step in recovery taking precautions before a situation. Congrats on the baby, as well!

you will not need pain killers after birth. the most you will need is maybe some tylenol, if that. the only painfull part after you deliver naturally can be when your uterus starts to contract and shrink. THis usually happens during or after breast feeding. After having my first child they were not bad and it there was really only pain one time. My second child they were a bit worse, but you just breath through it like you do in delivery and they go away. They dont even last a min. Good luck and Good health to you and your little one to come.

You shouldn't need painkillers at all after you give birth. If you are afraid of relapsing, opt to NOT take any pain medicine during or after birth. I have had to healthy children and will deliver my 3rd in July, I am 32, I NEVER had any pain meds with either child and will not with this one. Some women can't take the pain, I wanted to be fully aware of what was happening. Sure it hurts, not going to lie, but it isn't so bad you have to have meds, well atleast for me
GOOD LUCK

Congratulations !!. Welcome back to a sensible world. If you can built up a will power, nothing like it. child birth is a natural phenomenon. Actually, there is no need for the pain killers and they never used to take any medicines in those olden days. If you want to keep any medicine out of your body try that you will succeed. But is it is intolerable, there is no problem in your taking any prescription drug. My dear friend, do not get addicted to anything. Listen to your strong conscious and never to your weak mind.

You know, when I gave birth vaginally, I really didn't NEED any painkillers afterwards. I was sore and I took them only because I wanted too, but honestly, I could have done without them. My hospital sent me home with these awesome pads that you bend in half and they turn really cold..this is the BEST feeling on your bruised and swollen vagina..no kidding. I also had a c-section and afterwards I really did need pain med. That's a major surgery that does require some pain meds afterwards. Good Luck and congratulations on your baby :) They are wonderful!

No you shouldn't but that depends on how good the delivery goes. If your Doctor knows your past he should be able to direct you in the right way to go about things so you don't go back to that way. If you feel that you are taking that path then talk to the Doc right away so you can get help before it is to late. A lot of time you can find people just to talk to and it helps just to talk to someone even if it's on-line and you don't even know who they are. They can be an inspiration to you.
Good Luck and don't worry about it,you'll be fine.

No. Tylenol will do the trick. And especially if your considering nursing the baby. (By the way, even if you just do that for about 2 weeks, if your not the type that wants to nurse, it gives the baby tons of immunities to fight off sickness.) So you'll be just fine with tylenol. Congrats on both baby and being clean! Happy Mothering!

It depends if you had an episiotomy or not. I had one, and just needed Tylenol to help relieve the ache...you probably wont need anything though. Congrats on the baby and congrats on the 2 yrs clean...keep it up! :)

I did not need any painkillers at all. If you are in pain take lots of sitzbaths to ease your pain...but you might not need anything. It all depends on the person.
