I am looking to open a new small business checking account in the California and I would like some recommendations from other business owners.

Your comments would be much appreciated.

Shop around amongst local banks, in person. I was stunned by variation I found amongst the offeres that I received from banks competing head-to-head in my (Denver) market.

In the end, the bank I went with, Wells Fargo, waived fees for a year, gave me $150 in incentive cash, and paid for my first order of checks & deposit tickets. They also had the best deal on ongoing charges/non-charges.

However, I opened my account a year ago, and in a different market, so don't take my experience as a suggestion to run to Wells Fargo. You really do need to shop around locally. Promotions change all the time and when bank officers are running below their new account quota, they may be more inclined to "find" more incentives for you!

In Florida we used AM South. Free checking for life. No more junk fees every month and they throw in overdraft protection and a credit card if you want it. "If It's Free, It's For Me."
