I find the sheer amount of litter in the UK really depressing. I was in Ireland last week and it was very pleasant to be able to travel more than 10 metres without trash everywhere. This place looks so filthy. In the car park outside where my parents live, I've found leftover food, dirty nappies and used tampons, which is just disgusting. I have a really stupid dog who picks up revolting objects then comes back into the house and throws up on the carpet.
I think people who litter should be made to launder my carpet and pay vet bills for when he swallows something really unsavoury.

Only if they do #2 just anywhere - whenever & wherever they feel the urge. Litterbugs should be made to pick up not only the stuff they drop, but spend a whole day pickin up other peoples litter w/a coller & leash on & a sign arond their necks identifying them. On 2nd thot, the stocks & pelting w/rotten food is a nice (& somewhat fitting) touch...yeah - whynot!

No, I don't think so, but rubbing puppies noses in their own dirt is also inappropriate. It only teaches the puppy that they were bad for relieving themselves. Humans are supposed to know better about littering. Obviously, they don't care.

Thats a bit extreme, littering is a problem, I was taught as a child to put things in my pocket, probably why My handbag is always full of rubbish, I cart it around for weeks until eventually I can't find a thing that I need.
The bottom line.
Parents should teach.

Yes, we might have a tidier place to live in and people would think twice before dropping things and letting dogs mess the streets

There should be a law that if you SEE someone dropping litter outdoors, you have to stop whatever you're doing to point and say, "Nasty! Pick that up!".
