Who said they wanted models to be fat? I don't want them to be fat. I like women of all body types. I think tall skinny models are pretty hot so long as they have a pretty face.
I do think some women want models with different body types. The reason for that is they want to know what clothes look like on women that aren't tall and skinny. The average woman is only 5'6 and I think it's fair for women to want models that represent that.

Models do not represent what is "reality" in the average world. Go walk down the street and assess how the average person looks. Models are actually an aberration of reality. However, as you well point out, it creates an illusion of the desire able. Since they are then considered desirable, real and average people become effected by this. Self esteem is altered, eating habits effected, etc etc. If modeling represented reality, all of these social issues would be minimized.

They don't necessarily want models to get "Fat" but they do wnat them to stop promoting a skeletal body image. Many young people who are trying to emulate these models are falling prey to anorexia and bulimia. This is affecting their health and sometimes they even die from these diseases. This also affect the models, so promoting a healthy self image is in the best interests of the fashion industry simply because it encourages those models to stay alive and healthy. Models are in the business of promoting people's products by the way. There is a thriving industry for plus sized models, ordinary looking models and even models who are not necessarily physically attractive.

I think the point there is to stop women from obsessing about their weight to the point where they have extreme complications and even die from malnutrition. They want women who are role models for young girls to have a positive body image, a healthy and more normal body image, so that young girls will want to be healthy instead of sickly thin. If you ever have a daughter, you will more than understand the effects of the media on little girls. I've seen girls as young as six saying they're fat and obsessing over what they eat.

who making models get fat? I've never heard of that.
there's nothing wrong with being skinny, but skinny is not what many models are genetically supposed to look like. many of them starve themselves, and make themselves throw up to be skinny and that's not healthy. that's what people don't like about skinny models, not the fact that they are skinny

people don't want the models to get fat they just want them to be a healthy weight. A lot of them look like they never eat. Also, it is teaching our young girls that, that is how they should look, and causing eating disorders. The way models look is not natural, they are to thin, and most of them look nasty

Cos in the world today we'd rather see you fail and point it out then see you succeed and have to give you your due. I think it's cos most people are afraid of their own failures, and pointing and laughing at someone else's makes their own less noticeable, more palatable, or easier to ignore.
Women are women, skinny or fat or somewhere in between. Judging their attractiveness based solely on body type is the refuge of the stupid, cruel, and insecure.

Neither thin nor fat can be called ugly or beautiful - it all depends on if the model is beautful whatever weight he/she is. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - the issue is are they healthy?

They dont want models to be fat, they want models to be healthy! When a woman is so skinny you can see every bone in her body, that is not healthy.

There is a difference between skinny and emaciated.
some models are so thin and gaunt, they look like walking skeletons. Well- paid skeletons, yes, but skeletons.
god bless
