Applying Clear Coat

what are you sanding it with? Should be at least 800 grit paper and you should be wet sanding. The main reason to sand the color coat is to make it stickier for the clear coat and also to remove imperfections. The clear coat will make the color underneath shine again. But if you are using a spray can and using the same brand of paint and clear coat there should be instructions on the cans of how to use and prepare the paint.

no, as soon as the color coat flashes you spray your clear, all your looking for is coverage with the color coat, dont spray too much. You can color sand the clear if there are imperfections.

Yes! Let it dry completely and then use the finest steel wool, lightly. You'll be able to feel the difference, as the surface will become smooth. Then clean with tack cloth to make sure ALL dust/paint is gone from the surface, and finally paint with the clear coat. Let it dry in a dust-free environment and you'll have a perfect job.

Oooops, I was talking about WOOD refinishing. I bet you're talking about metal. Sorry. For metal, I don't know the answer.

no you do not sand color coat (basecoat). before applying clearcoat.let each coat of color dry and wipe with a tack rag between coats after full coverage then apply clearcoat.any sanding you do must be before the last coat of color is applied.if you sand the final coat of color you will see scratches or cloudeness after you clearcoat it

Clear coat is usually applied to a Base coat that had no shine to it when it dries.Once clear is applied the shine appears. Then it,s wet sanded to remove inperfections..
