Your cervical fluid/mucous and arousal fluids are different, as someone else noted. There are a couple of things you can do to try and differentiate between the two.

First, you may want to check your cervical fluids/mucous "internally" (by inserting a finger and checking the fluid that's nearer to the cervix itself) -- the only caveat is that if you use this method to check, you should use this method consistently to check. While this won't enable you to tell the difference between arousal fluid and fertile quality cervical fluid it may give you a better indication of what your cervical fluid is like (and you may see that you have it all the time around ovulation, after all).

If you're in doubt about the fluid itself try blowing on it. Seriously. If you wet your finger with it and blow on it...arousal fluids will simply dry up/off, while fertile quality cervical fluid will not. Also, while arousal fluid may be very slippery, it's not stretchy the way (most) fertile quality cervical fluid is, so separate your fingers a bit and see how the fluid reacts.

It can be a bit difficult to recognize cervical fluid, but hopefully the answers you get here will help. Best of luck!

Arousal fluid is different from cervical fluid - you need to check the cervical fluid. Cervical fluid is the stuff that's there all the time, pretty much, although some women have more than others, and for some it dries up completely at certain times of the month.

I only learned this a few months ago, and I'm a few years older than you are!

I think it varies from person to person. My gyno told me in December that its normal to have the mucus the entire time of ovulation.
