It doesn't necessarily need to be from the same company but you should make sure it is compatible with your laptop prior to buying the drive.

Not at all. Just be aware that installing a hard drive on your laptop may void the waranty. Other than that, go for it. Most hard drives are pretty universal for the most part. Just insure that the new hard drive lists your particular computer.

No it doesn't have to be the same company, just make sure the hard drive will fit. If it's a laptop, make sure it's a laptop hard drive and make sure, like I said, it fits.
