Durring WWI, the Germans got their tails handed to them (in a nutshell) and the country as a whole had a very difficult time with self esteem after the war. They needed something to make themselves feel better or look better than other races. Among a group of Germans who were looking at older arian religions and beliefs, was a little man called Adolf. The group picked and choosed among a variety of religions and superstitions that were popular in Germany's past to show how they were superior and were right durring WWI. This group gained more and more power throughout german politics and Adolf came to the forefront of the movement, primarily due to his carisma. Side note: They were not exclusivly anti-semite. They were also anti-christian. They persicuted catholics just as much as jews in some areas. Anyway, as the movement grew and strengthened, there were fewer and fewer people that would (or could) disagree with Adolf. Because no one would contradict him, he let his mind wander, and wander it did. From the person who gave us the "people's car" (volkswagon) and better factory working conditions, came death camps and slaughter on a mass scale. It doesn't take much power to corupt, and towards the end, he had the power of the gods.

Read the following:
Rosenbaum, R. (1999). Explaining Hitler: The Search for the Origins of His Evil. Harper Perennial. ISBN 0-06-095339-X
This is one of the best books out there (an wonderful, flowing read BTW) that makes an attempt to get to the source of his hatred and evil. Rosenbaum concludes that there are no easy and concise answers, and the exploration is still open.

Anti-Semitism has been apparent for thousands of years (it even dates back to Shakespeare's time, i.e. Shylock the Jew in The Merchant of Venice), so its not as if he was doing anything new - he just had the power to put both his prejudices, and thousands of years' worth of prejudice into practice. Its a well known fact he wanted a pure aryan race and anything that defied that persona had to be gotten rid of.

Those who studied his personal life know that he was a devoted Spiritualist, (satanist). It's actually a common theory that he was demon-possessed. If these claims are true, as satan supposedly has an extreme hatred for the Jews, he did these things as a service to his god. I'm not saying, however that all anti-semites are demon possessed, as I believe Hitler was.

There are several books that you can read to help you understand. "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", "Mein Kampf" Hitler's own book, or "The Third Reich at War".

Wanted to place blame on a certain group of people so that he won't get his *** whooped. Although.....we did a pretty good job of that later on.
