Unless you're a hood playing poor while sitting on undeclared criminal gains, you're being watched and want to do the humble bit, I think what goes around comes around.

Discrimination against the poor, in which way? That is are they discriminated against when/if they are in a store, and it's obvious by their clothing that they don't belong there and they are "watched" more closely. Or are you referring to the discrimination in health care, where since they cannot afford proper medical/dental insurance the state/federal government provides mediocre health care, which also provides mediocre physicians and mediocre wellness programs. Maybe you're referring to the financial aid one of the other members said that they (the poor) could get a part time job to save for a college education. Well, the only problem with that is, if you aren't poor enough, or you don't have 4 kids and are single you have a harder time getting the financial aid to further your education. So, YES in many ways.
I believe the poor are discriminated against, and also there have been barriers put in place to ensure they stay poor. These "programs" are in place from the non-existent financial and medical aide, to the type of food that is provided at a low cost. You'll note that fresh fruits and vegetables are costly, yet are a requirement for a healthy lifestyle. Then how are the poor and desolate in this country supposed to afford the brain food we need to feeding the children so they can become productive citizens, and for their parents to have the energy to be productive. Almost all low cost food is garbage, garbage in/garbage out; they taught us that in school. Also it has to be more than one meal (at school) and what happens on spring/summer break when the kids are not in school? Many things have been put into place to discriminate the poor, and to keep them poor.
On a personal note, for the lady that made the comments about lazy = poor: you're considered "poor" if you don't have in a savings account that will pay your rent/mortgage for 6 months should you have an unfortunate accident or loose your job, this includes all of your expenses (car, tv, water, cable/satelite, etc) This should never be touched, in fact it should be added to as often as possible. It's a fact most people are 2 paychecks away from being on the streets. That is if you lost your job and couldn't keep up the payments you'd be on the streets. That's how close POOR is to you.

Poor people are often profiled--why?--because the majority of them live in terrible neighborhoods (if they have anywhere to live at all). Sirens sound all night, and the helicopters fly overhead. So for the few bad apples in a poor neighborhood, everyone has to pay.
Poor people have crappy cars (if any car). The cops are always stopping these cars--just looking for something to be wrong.
Some better-off people seem to have forgotten that they came from a poor life--they were just lucky to rise above it.

if you are poor, it is your own fault. you may be born into poverty, but you still have school access just like the blue collar or wealthy. you still have the ability to learn and to get a high school diploma. if you don't get a diploma it is your own fault. you can get a job with a high school diploma. you can work two part time jobs to save for college if you want to further your education and there is also finacial aid. i associate poor with lazy. and i dont know what the guy above me is talking about respect for, what has he done to earn anyone's respect. you don't start off life with repsect, you earn it through hard work. hard work = money = respect
