This worked for me, but was told it didn't always. Disconnect cable plugs under both front seats. Start engine and run for three or four minutes. Stop engine and re connect plugs. If this does not work, then you will have to contact a reputable auto electrician,or take it to a dealer to have the 'computer' reset.

most of the 306 range had a fault with the wires under the drivers seat and passengers too
you have to take away the orange clip and just solder the wires
very very common fault
turn the ignition on and off three times and then start the car
it should clear the fault
