what is 802.11b/g wireless lan?

i had a laptop acer travelmate 4070 with 802.11 b/g wireless lan but dont know how to use it to connect. and to whom it will connect.

You obviously have an internet connection but if you want to use your laptop to connect to it with wireless you need something that can broadcast a wireless network - a wireless router is usually the best bet here. You just plug your internet connection into the router (you can connect any wired computers to it too) and it broadcasts a network for your wireless pc to connect to; obviously you'll need to get the router set up correctly but it should come with instructions to help you out.

Once you have the router set up and broadcasting then you just enable wireless on your laptop and 'view available networks' and it should find the network, hit connect and provide any necessary passwords and that's about it.

Another option is if you college/workplace/local cafe has a wireless access point (they usually advertise them if they do) then you can often get a username/password and pay a small fee to use your network - as above turn on wireless, view available networks and connect using passwords provided.

802.11 b/g is a wireless standard that mixes the b and g standard into one wireless card. Each standard has it's own radius,signal strength, etc. With b/g, you can connect to any wireless router that are either 802.11b or g compatible, as most wireless nowadays is either one.

Basically it is just a wireless standard, it allows you to communicate with any wireless hub within range.

It will connect with pretty much any wireless connection that is out there, but to get it in your own home you will have to buy a wireless router.

You need a wireless router to connect to. Once you set that up, double click on the icon with the two computer screens. On that screen, double click on the choice that has the name of your router.
